Video Games

Alright I am gonna throw myself out there and sound like an old man. ENTERTAIN YOUR GODDAMED SELF. A new concept to most children, honestly why can’t kids learn to explore their imagination? But none-the-less video games are out there and surprisingly teens and tweens are more likely to learn their fashion cues from the latest video games than from television. According to Alyssa Quart, “Television watching has diminished among teens over the last decade. A recent survey of 12,000 adolescents found that teens spend 12.2 hours per week online and only 7.6 hours per week watching TV. And the attention of those kids who still watch television tends to be fragmented across many cable channels. What’s more, kids are increasingly likely to be avoiding television advertising through technologies such as TiVo and DVR.”

This is great news to smaller companies who can afford other ways to reach children, like product placement in video games. Quicksilver, for example, now puts kiosks in Pro Skater 3, and as a character you even shop in the store to get your gear and board. Product placement is something happening more and more and it seems logical because if you are portraying fictional people you can make them seem real by giving them everyday products. However, there are obliviously serious flaws with that, for example, if all you knew about computers from movies then you would think that Apple Computers has 90% market share and that most people owned laptops instead of desktops.
